Not too long ago, this 1940's era barn was just that – dusty, rusted, with a barn door painted pink. We've spent six months painstakingly renovating it into a gorgeous antique studio with antique objects from around the region and those inherited from our grandparents. Sleeps 2.

This two bedroom hacienda is filled with art deco influences and other vintage finds from around the region – including a bed from the 70’s that doubles as an 8-track stereo. The serene setting is highlighted by its phenomenal views of the valley.
Sleeps 4.

A open-air iridescent kitchen and hang area with a bunk bed downstairs and a lavish bathroom above, this “glamping” style accommodation was painted by Shrine On, whose work you’ll see dotting the High Desert area. Sleeps 2.

Our container tiny hotel room appears to float above the desert due to its mirrored foundation. Ultra modern inside, it has both Danish and Japanese influences, and everything you really need in a home. Sleeps 2.

Invite your whole family or friend group to experience the entire property.
Sleeps 11.

We currently host over 100 rescued and rehomed animals at the sanctuary including mini horses, mini cows, emus, goats, pigs, peacocks, a giant sulcata tortoise, many dogs, a turkey, and plenty of chickens, ducks, guinea pigs and guinea hens.

Welcome to Kaleidoscope Desert – a sanctuary of beauty, wonder, and respite.

Our furry and feathered friends – including curious emus, persistent goats, meandering piggies, free-range mini horses, ridiculous chickens, mouthy ducks and many more – will welcome you with open wings to their home amidst the breathtaking desert landscapes.

With four unique accommodations, from an art deco guesthouse to an antique barn, a floating tiny home to an iridescent star tower, there's an oasis for every traveler seeking solace. Here, art is everywhere, with installations, sculptures, and murals around every corner.

Kaleidoscope Desert is our garden of eden – a magic portal where nature and art create a truly transcendent experience.

We’re glad you found us.

What We Do

We rescue animals both locally and nationally, and give them the best life possible on the ranch.

We create a transcendent, immersive environment that unites art and animals for a truly unique – and most importantly, healing and restorative – experience.

We support local and resident artists to create works of wonder around the property.

We invite guests to experience it all by staying in one of our four uniquely designed rentable spaces or by visiting us for an “animal experience” adventure.

About Morongo Valley

Our town is a little oasis in the middle of the desert with no more than 5,000 local inhabitants, not far from Joshua Tree National Park. At once strange and sublime, the hills rise up around you, dotted with Yucca trees that look like ancient creatures come to life. The nights are silent and peaceful, with a sky full of stars that seems close enough to touch. There is an energy in this place that is hard to describe: the sunsets are a work of art and the air is filled with the songs of coyotes and the scurrying of desert critters. It's a place where you can come to escape, to refresh, to find yourself again.

Kaleidoscope Desert is a sanctuary for animals and humans. We believe in the healing nature of animals and provide a sacred space for humans to interact.

Our Vision

We envision Kaleidoscope Desert as a place of healing for both humans and animals. We believe this sanctuary is not just a desert gem but also a prototype for how humans can live in the future in harmony with nature, art, and animals.

Our Mission

Kaleidoscope Desert rescues both animals and humans in need of healing. Through providing a space to recharge and rejuvenate we aim to be a harmonious collaboration between the magic of Joshua Tree, the love of animals, and the spirit of people.

Our Purpose

Kaleidoscope Desert is both an idea and a place. Humans can be completely self sufficient and in harmony with nature and animals and be happier than they are otherwise.

At Kaleidoscope Desert we believe in a harmonious collaboration between people, animals, nature, and art.

Kaleidoscope Desert is a constant work in progress, here’s a glance at what’s up next.

The Lodge

Set to be finished at the end of fall 2024 the lodge will bring together the Kaleidoscope Desert campus acting as a central meeting point for guests, classes, and more. Below are some of the offerings planned.

  • Community Center

  • Plant Medicine

  • Classes

  • Shared Accommodations

  • Auditory Experiences

  • Community Dining

Spa

Kaleidoscope Desert already offers 2 separate hot tubs, outdoor baths, in room massage, and a newly opened natural pool. We plan to have by winter of 2024 added a sauna and steam room as well as more formalized cold plunge pools.

Greenhouse

In our mission to become a closed loop system we plan on building at least one greenhouse to be able to grow food both for the animals and the guests. The project will begin as soon as funding is secured.

Gift Shop

Currently under renovation is a two story Lighthouse Duplex, one of only 5 known to still exist. When complete, the Lighthouse will act as a gift shop that will offer merch, drinks, snacks, and more for guests and visitors.

Aviary

The aviary will enable Kaleidoscope Desert to rescue birds such as peafowl, parrots, and more that we’re currently unable to due to the lack of and adequate enclosure. Housed rescue birds will be have temperature controlled nests for dealing with cold and hot temps. As soon as funded, construction will begin.

Sundown

Kaleidoscope Desert has acquired a property 5 minutes away on the hillside above that will soon offer guests in need of seclusion and more privacy while still having the main campus available whenever needed. It Is currently undergoing renovations and we hope to open in early 2025.

All images in this section are visionary concepts, we hope to replace these with the real thing as soon as possible.
